We Are.... Perv State!!!!!

In light of the beyond reprehensible circumstances surrounding the child sex scandal in Penn State, I thought I'd make a little poster! I heard a joke recently, If an older woman who chases young guys is called a cougar, whats an older guy who chases younger guys, a Nittany Lion! I am not saddened in the least to see Joe Pa ousted, or to see the president kicked to the curb. I hope this tragic incident brings the academic giant to its knees. I hope that academics realize that they are not invincible.

First shoot with Amanda.... and it started snowing!

This was our initial location. And then is started snowing all over our lives! lol

This one is My Fav! ^

So, although the lighting was not the best, and the poor model was freezing her ass off, I think it was a successful first shoot! I'm excited to see what we do with better conditions! Thanks Amanda!!!!

New Projections - Justin

This is a selection of images from the newest of my projections series. This series showcases slides that I've purchased at public auction and projected on nude models. The use of nudity illustrates a vulnerability and openness to emotion. By illustrating "lost" memories from strangers on nude models, I hope to invoke a sense of recognition of what we all have lost in the process from experience to memory. Please let me know what you think of this work and the project in general. Thanks everyone!

New Work!

Hey everyone! I just finished this piece today, "Pop Phelps" is part of my Faces of Evil Geniuses series, showcasing individuals from many different forums of society who have been called evil and who exhibit superb intellectual ability in some way. This man is the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church (i.e. The "God Hates Fags" people) and while his life has seemingly been dedicated to spreading hate and malice, he is also a lawyer who has exercised his first amendment rights to their limits. By engaging society in a dialogue about privacy, defamation, hate speech, and freedom, I deem him to be pure genius. For the purposes of this project, I have decided to mute as much of my own personal biases as I possibly can, I simply aim to present my audience with controversial individuals and ask them to consider, what is evil? what is brilliance/genius? and how far from each other are those two concepts, if at all? Please feel free to comment as I post more of these, engage me and react, I intend for this body of work to be exhibited within the year. Thanks for tuning in!!!

A lovely story filled with inspiration

I've just finished watching Julie & Julia, which I have been waiting to see for quite some time. It was an absolutely heartwarming film filled with lovely imagery and a great message. In the movie, Julie feels lost in her life, working a shitty job, living in Queens, feeling no sense of direction, and by following her love of food and her hobby of cooking, she finds motivation in the words and teachings of Julia Child. Let alone the stunning performance by Ms. Meryl Streep, the characters in this film are so sincere and so driven, I could not help but be moved. I truly feel that my efforts over the last year, (my first year out of undergraduate,) have not been lost. I can see, perhaps for the first time, the value in all of the quiet evenings of reading, research, and blogging here. I can only hope for a modicum of the success that Julia earns through her endeavors, in my own. I will continue to post new work, works in progress, thoughts, research, etc here for all of you to see and hopefully comment on. I hope that this blog will serve as a document that I can look back on, when these projects were new, and fresh, and that you all can find some comfort or interest here. My New Year's resolution for 2011 is to make lots of new work, and I intend to keep that goal! After all, If I am going to get accepted into grad school any time soon, I'll need a portfolio that blows any review board away! good luck to you all in the new year! I wish you the best, and I'll see ya around!

Always,
Stewart A.
